Client Rights and Informed Participation in SUD Services
1.5 CE hours · $4.50 · AODCEU-RIGHTS-201
Self-paced learning for substance use disorder counselors, with applied practice, a final assessment, evaluation, and final attestation.
Learning objectives
- Distinguish client protections from service expectations and explain both clearly; check understanding and choice without treating a signed form as proof of meaningful participation.
- Explain a proposed counseling activity so the client can understand its purpose and process; explain voluntary options and externally required conditions without exaggerating either.
- Describe applicable privacy procedures without promising absolute secrecy or assuming every record has the same rules; identify language and disability barriers and use the appropriate assistance process.
- Recognize pressure that exceeds a legitimate service expectation and respond with accurate information; respond to a client's concern without equating disagreement with refusal of recovery.
- Describe the actual response process without inventing penalties or minimizing important requirements; provide the appropriate review routes without requiring the client to abandon services or confront the subject of a complaint.
- Recognize when changed services, communication, or disclosure needs require an updated discussion; record the participation discussion without converting assumptions into findings.
